Check the orientation of your batteries.Sit your camera on a flat surface battery compartment UP and facing you.Open the battery door it should fold away from you.The first battery closest to the door and to your left should go in positive end down and the one right beside should be positive up.The batteries closest to you or the outside edge should go in left battery positive end up and the one beside it should be positive end down.Any other orintation will not work.If it won't power up after you're sure your orientation is correct then you more than likely have a defective camera.
