Sony DCR-PC330E freezes when storing Photos/ lose photos taken

I often get a problem whereby the camera freezes when trying to store a still photo on the memory stick. Turning the camera off brings it out of the freeze but then I lose all the photos previously taken. Has anyone experienced the same problem and how do I resolve it?
