    I found the manual in PDF for free download on Canon's USA site.

    Click on the provided URL and click the tab that says Drivers & Downloads and then look for:

    EOS DIGITAL REBEL XS/EOS 1000D Instruction Manual
    eosrebelxs-1000d-im-en.pdf

    Towards the bottom. Either right click it to Download or click on it to view in a browser and save it from there.
