Choose the part of the sensor to use for measuring brightness and
determining exposure.

Press the M button in standby mode.
The control panel appears.

Use the four-way controller (2345) to select [AE
Metering], and press the 4 button.
The [AE Metering] screen appears.

Use the four-way controller (45)
to select a metering method, and
press the 4 button.
The camera returns to the control panel.

Multi-
segment
The sensor meters the brightness in multiple zones. (default setting)
Even in backlit locations, this mode automatically determines
what level of brightness is in which portion and automatically
adjusts exposure.
M
Center-
weighted
Metering is weighted at the center of the sensor.
The sensitivity increases at the center and no automatic
adjustment is performed even during backlit scenes.
N Spot
The brightness is measured only within a limited area at the center
of the sensor.
You can use this in combination with the AE Lock function (p.87)
when a subject is too small to obtain a correct exposure.
• You can also change the setting from the [A Rec. Mode 1] menu.
• In [5. Link AE to AF Point] (p.72) of the [A Custom Setting 1] menu, you can
link the exposure and AF point in the focusing area when L is selected.
