The exceptions are if we snap a picture, it will show up on the screen for a moment, then it too goes away. Pressing the menu button does nothing, and pressing the 'review' arrow at the lower left side of the screen does nothing. Battery has been removed for a minute (to reset) and replaced, still nothing.
