Product Problem: LCD Used during recording = No Audio

If the Electronic View Finder (EVF) is used during recording, audio does fine. If the pop-out LCD display is used, the microphone becomes disabled. I just use the EVF. Is the mic becoming disabled with the LCD out a 'feature'?

in vcr or camera mode, camcorder shuts down by itself. can this be fixed in the menu or just a bad cacorder.?
