Movie Formating...

Hi, I can't find my manual at the moment, and the one on here is a loop of links, so...I'm lost. Anyhow, I dumped a bunch of video footage on to the computer, and it shows up in quicktime format, which I can't use. Is there anyway to have the camera format its film to .AVI or something I can use for editing?
