batteries how to tell when a recharge is required & how to recharge batteries

2 A symbol wil blink to notify you that you should recharge. But there actually is a better way if you want to see how much is left of the battery all the time. You could try out chdk(Canons Hacker Development Kit). It adds a battery power function that tells the percentage left in the battery. It also adds a million other things. It is a firmware hack that is read from the sd card and that doesn't interfere with the original firmware(when you remove the card/erase the file on the card, the original settings and firmware starts up. It can be a bit tricky to install but it's worth it if you want a lot of extra (dslr-like) photo operations like auto-bracketing, custom iso, 60 second exposures, raw capability and much more....
