I have a 20 GB hard drive camcorder. I last used it in the summer '08. I take good care of it, and it has never been dropped it. Recently, I tried to record a video and the image on the lcd screen stays black. It will record, but only the sound not the picture. When I turn the camcorder on, it indicates that the cap is on, but it's not. I can acess the videos that I still have on the camera and even play them back on the camera. I don't know why there is no image. Any suggestions?

5 Thanks for your reply. Would you happen to know approximately how much it would cost to replace this chip? Or, would it be best to purchase a new camcorder?

4 This is likely to be caused by a faulty CCD. This chip is located behind the lens & is responsbile for image capture. Replacement is possible, but usually expensive.

4 Personally, i would replace the camcorder. A rough estimate of cost would be around £200 (360 USD)
