camera gives " HELP" message, when switched on. message remains after swithing off. please help

0 CAMERA SHOWS "HELP" IN THE DISPLAY WHETHER IT IS TURNED ON OR OFF. I HAVE TAKEN THE BATTHERIES OUT AND PUT THEM BACK IN; TAKEN THE LENS OFF, NOTHING SEEMS TO WORK. IT ALL HAPPENED WHEN I PUSHED DOWN ON THE BUTTON AF/M. HELP!
