Question About Olympus Film Camera None

My daughter is in a H.S. Photography class and is trying to use an old camera of my father in law's which hasn't been used in several years. We have replaced the batteries and loaded a new roll of film but it seems as if the shutter is jammed because the film will not advance. Is this fixable? Thanks for your time. Susan King
