5 I was looking ways to hack this thing and I came cross this site. This frame is running Linux OS as I can tell by its path /dev/xxx/. I wonder what CPU it's running, could be ARM. I have tried hooking my WD 250GB USB-Powered and it worked flawlessly. Make sure the HDD is formatted with FAT32, not NTFS. Also, it plays back xvid or divx with AC3 sound stream too. I will post more info as I learn more about this frame. I have filled up the 1GB internal memory with 2 ripped movies. Here is my tip for internal memory utilization. Your original pictures taken by your camera take up too much spaces and you don't want to waste that to the internal memory when you know the frame is 800x600. You need to resize and export the pictures. I recommend Google Picasa because it's FREE and it has so many cool features that you will love. Like it plays music while slide showing the pictures, cool effects...etc.. By default Picasa reads pictures from My Pictures folder or whatever you defined it during the installation. Why waste more space if you only want to scan it once. To add picture folders to Picasa from another locations, you don't have to copy the pictures to My Picture folder. Simply go to Tools menu -> Folder Manager, navigate to picture folder(s) that you wanted to be scanned (You need this step because Picasa needs to know what you want to be exported). Simply select the picture folder(s) with a red X and select Scan Once (green check mark). Here you can select multiple folders. When done selecting your folders, click OK. Your picture folders now should be populated under the Folder tree on the left panel. Select/highlight the folder you want to be exported/resized, to go File -> Export to Folder Under Image Size Options, select Resize to: 800. This will give a new size 800x600 to the exported pictures. (This operation will not change the original size, so you don't have to worry about it.). Before you press the OK button, make sure that you change the "Location of exported folder", this is where you want to store your resized/exported pictures. This could be your SD card if you have one inserted / USB thumb drive / whatever you want. If you wish to Export another folder, just repeat the step above and you don't have to wait for the previous one to complete.

5 I have pictures on my SD card but the camera does not recognize that there is an SD card in it. Is anyone else having this problem or know why this is happening?

5 Has anyone found a way to copy pictures from a PC to the Frame using a USB connection?

5 To help you use the Photo Frame, I have created the following document. The frame really does work great. It’s just the manufacturers instructions that really suck. I created a word document with pictures etc, but I cant put that here First off, when doing any of the following, use the remote control that came with the unit. It makes the procedures work a lot easier. Using a Flash Drive If you have a flash drive that contains pictures etc., just plug it into the USB slot. Turn on the photo frame and go to the menu by pressing the menu button. Using the left or right arrow buttons go to setup (the gears will be on top and highlighted) Click Enter Now using the down arrow, move to the icon that has gears in it. Hit the right arrow to move into the next box Then use the down arrow to highlight USB Then when USB is highlighted click enter. It should now have a check mark next to it. Now using the left arrow key move back to the icons then down to the last icon to exit Press enter You should now be back at the menu. Use the left or right buttons until the camera is at the top and highlighted. Now press enter and the pictures will display. Using a memory card. Follow the instructions above only pick the memory card instead of the USB. Saving photos etc. to the Photo frame memory. (NOTE: The same procedure will work with a flash drive just substitute a flash drive for memory card) With the SD (memory card) in place, power on the photo frame. That should bring up the menu like the one below. If it doesn’t come up, click on the menu button. Using the left or right arrow buttons, move around the menu until copy/del is highlighted as shown in the above picture. Now hit enter That will bring up the next menu (shown below) In the photo notice the word All is highlighted in yellow. For our demonstration we will be moving just photos, so using the up button on the remote move the yellow highlight to Photo. Then hit Enter That will bring up the following screen or something very close to it. In this picture, /dev/nand1/1 is highlighted. This is the picture frames internal memory. The one below that which states /dev/sd1/1 refers to the memory disk. If there was a Flash drive in the USB slot it would also appear here. Since we are going to copy from the memory disk. Using the up or down arrow, highlight the memory disk (/dev/sd1/1). Please note that your file name could be different. Hit enter Using the right arrow button move the yellow highlighter to the right pane. Then using down arrow move the highlighter until it is on a picture you want to copy. Notice how the picture is previewed on the left side. When you have selected the picture hit enter A yellow square will surround your selection. If you don’t see it hit enter again. If you discover the yellow square disappeared, just hit enter again. If you want to select multiple pictures just move up or down to the picture and hit enter. You should then have a yellow square around each picture you selected. When you are done selecting the pictures, hit the right arrow button to highlight the edit area in the lower right of the screen, Notice the edit button is highlighted and there is still a yellow square around the picture(s) you selected. Hit enter. Copy will be highlighted. Hit enter Now using the arrow buttons, move so that /dev/nand1/1 is highlighted. Hit enter Here is the tricky part. Use the left arrow key to once again highlight Edit. (It should only take one click NOTE: It will only highlight edit from the left arrow button.) Then hit enter Paste should be highlighted. Hit enter You should see a file transfer take place and the picture(s) should now be on the right side. You can now view the pictures that way. NOTE: I was only able to copy 20 pictures at a time. That being the case, do the first 20 then the next 20 etc. Copying pictures from a computer. The best way to do that is to copy what you want to either a flash drive or a memory card and use those to either supply the frame with pictures or for copy purposes. Copying Music Do the same thing you did with photos only use the music selection. Photo & Music As far as I can tell that part will work if you have photos and music already combined. I just did each separately. Then when I was done I told the frame to do show photo and music.

5 I can get the SD card recognized but the songs are folders by the artist. On the palm pilot the songs are listed separately. I can not get the folders for the artists open. On the the digital frame it is listed as the artists name and then the name of the album and the album name will not open.

4 I agree, the instructions are very limited. The picture frame will do so much more than indicated in the instructions. The remote is quite a useful tool. I copied photos from an SD card to the frames memory ( which appears to be called the Nand) using the following steps. 1. with the SD card in the slot, press the power button, then on the menu screen navigate to the copy/delete icon, and press enter. 2. Select Photo, and press enter. Navigate with navigation keys to the file you wich to copy. 3. press enter to select file (should be a yellow box around it). (Repeat steps 2 and 3 to select additional files.) 4. Navigate right to get to edit. Press enter. 5. select copy. press enter. 6. navigate to location to copy to: 7. navigate right to get to edit. press enter. 8. select paste. press enter. The pictures you have selected should be on the Nand ( The Picture Frames memory) You can play them by bringing up the Menu screen and navigating to favorites, and pressing play. You can also play from the picture frames memory by removing all other forms of memory devices. I did learn one other interesting thing about ULTECH. When I went to ULTECH.com, the page said they had quit operations in June of '08 and directed me to another site www.ngailik.com for Pictures Frames. This sitedid not seem to have any readly available information on this frame either.

4 How do I delete pictures from my frame?
4 plug in the usb drive and go to copy/delete and when you select the drive go right over to the photos you want (scroll with up/down). once you have selected all of the correct photos, push right and click edit. click copy. hit return or go left, left then up until you get to the correct destination you want to copy (the internal hdd). click paste note: YOU MUST PASTE TO THE DESTINATION AFTER YOU COPY, IT DOES NOT KNOW TO AUTOMATICALLY WHERE TO PLACE THE FILES

3 I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS FRAME. IT WAS A GIFT FROM ME TO MY PARENTS AND MYSELF AND FOUR OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS FOLLOWED THE DIRECTIONS IN THE MANUAL AND THE PHOTOS WOULD NEVER DOWLOAD TO THE INTERNAL MEMORY. IT ACTED AS IF IT HAD BUT THEN WHEN YOU REMOVED THE CAMERA MEMORY CARD THE PHOTOS WERE NO WHERE TO BE FOUND. AND THERE IS NOT AN 800 NUMBER IN THE MANUAL TO CONTACT CUSTOMER SUPPORT. I GUESS I WILL HAVE TO RETURN THE PRODUCT UNLESS SOMEONE CAN HELP ME.

2 I, too, was ready to pack up my frame and take it back to Walmart. Then I read the comment posted by ht61435 which included step by step instructions on how to get to pictures onto the internal memory. THANKS! I'm reasonably satesfied with the frame now. NOTES: In step 6, its tricky to find the Nand, but keep hitting the navigate (arrow) keys until you get back to it. The frame has the capability of deleting files off your SD card if you accidentally tell it to. Be careful.

0 I too, found the instruction manual to be missing lots of information. I was never able to download pictures from camera via disk or ubs cord, since there wasn't a UBS cord. Found this Frame to be very frustating to operation, so. . put it back in the box and returned to store, will never purchase another ULTECh product and will not recomment this product to friends or relatives. Extremely dissappointed.

0 on the post davejunnila, I tried the instructions you had but I had something different come up. When you said to go into the memory file I did, but I also had in the right screen a DCIM or MISC. O.K. then I hit enter on that and then it comes up witha file saying 100KC330 and when I enter on that it brings up my pics. The problem I am having is when I do all of the other steps I don't have the nand to enter back on. Really Confused???? Help!!!

0 I want to say a very BIG Thank You to the person who took the time to write out all the instructions on how to download pictures, etc. to the internal memory of the Ultech Digital Frame. I too was very frustrated at trying to understand or even find anything helpful in the User Manual that came with the frame. Your written instructions were very clearly written and easy to follow. I used to write job procedures and understand that making the instructions extremely detailed is a must. THANK YOU, THANK YOU! My goal was to have certain pictures downloaded to the frame in time to take it out of town later today and because of your instructions, I was able to do that!!!!

0 Followed directions above and was still unable to download pictures from my scan disk. When I have selected pictures to copy to frame everything is fine until I try to go back to the nand1/1. It will go to the nand0/1 which is my usb scan disk then I need enter and arrow right before I can see the nand1/1. Then I arrow left and up to get to nand1/1 and I enter and try to paste and I see the photos that I was able to download when I first downloaded photos. I hit enter and there are no new photos. I have done this umpteen times and have not been able to download new pictures. Unable to download music as well. I am not a happy camper and am ready to take it back to Walmart for a refund. It was a christmas present so I will need to get my son to send me the receipt.

0 Does anyone know how to download music from a PC to the Ultech Digital Frame ?
0 What a piece of crap. The manual is totally inatiquate and doesn't tell you how to operate the frame at all, especially how to download to the supposed internal memory. To tell you the truth i think the company is lying and i don't believe it has any internal memory. Take the piece of junk back and complain to the merchant for carring such crap. I got a 10.4'' frame that has plenty of internal memory that actually works and a easy to read manual to go with it at best buy for 125.00. It's a Digital Spectrum and i love it!! Unload the headache A.S.A.P ! ! Greg Ferguson

0 Thank you to Dave Junnila!! I too was ready to return to Wal-mart. In fact I had and the associate there talked me into keeping it and trying a again. So with some advice from the associates at Wal-mart, I tried with no luck. I was so frustrated that I got extremely upset and cried. I consider myself somewhat intelligent, but this frame made me feel extremely stupid. My husband and my kids who are very computer savy could not figure this out. No number for tech support or nothing. My hubby found this website and thanks to Dave, my frame is up and working. Thank you for helping me to be able to use one of my Christmas gifts!!

0 Does anyone know how to get this thing to recognize the SD card I insert. I know my SD card works fine because my laptop recognizes it but when I put it in the frame, the frame does not read it. Any help would be great!

0 Our Ultech is working fine with no problems though it is tricky learning how to first use it. There are a couple of digital photo frames such as the 10" frame from Insignia sold by Best Buy that have a Trojan virus on the CD but no mention of Ultech on the virus warning announcements. In any case I suggest relying on the SD card as your intermediary, load your photo's from your PC onto the SD and load them from the SD onto the Ultech, not by use of the USB from the PC direct to the Ultech

0 You might need to setup at setup menu for media to read, a drop down selection for SD/MMC. Also to find the nand selection- go to dev/sd1/1 then press enter to see nand selection
Was this answer helpful?
0 While in the setup menu the drop down works but it will not let me select the SD option. It only lets me select the internal hard drive. I don't know what else to do.

0 From the "manual" with this frame, and what I have found on my own, there doesn't appear to be anyway to have this digital frame randomly shuffle the photos in memory. Ergo, every time you start the play over, it goes through the same sequence every time, apparently in alphabetical order. I tried shuffling the files on my SD card and the frame still shows them in the same order as before. Bummer!

0 Plug in your memory card. Go to copy/delete, click enter. Choose photo or whatever. You will see what appears to be a camera with a usb port and below it a memory. Choose the memory card. Now open the file that is highlighted on the right. If nothing appears try the one below it until your pic appear. Once you see your pics you can on;y copy like 20 at a time. Select the pics you want by pressin enter. And you will see that the photo name is highlighted. Now once you've selected them go to edit at the bottom of the screen. Select copy. Now go back up and select the memory card. This will bring you back to the original page. Now select the camera with the usb port. Go back to edit and select paste. This should upload all the pics top the internal memory. If it does not work for you then I am very sorry I cou not help. Now i'm going to work on getting them from the computer via USB. I'll keep you guys posted.

0 We bought the unit because it was so inexpensive compared to the other brands and it had so many more features. Our model came with a manual, unfortunitly it was worthless in both langueges - it did not provide the key for moving photos for the USB drive to the internal memory (nice feature) nor did it help with saving to the internal memeory. I appreaciate the above advice and information - I will try and use the information from here to make the frame work. Thanks - I will be glad to send anyone a copy of the manual if they need it. drydensmail@aol.com
