0 No idea if it is common, but sand - very fine and very little - was the cause of my error 3. Took entire case off (smallest screws I've ever seen) and carefully cleaned area where lens rotates as it retracts at back of camera. Sand was keeping the lens from retracting smoothly. As soon as it hit any resistance at all - Error 3. Now works great again.
