Shutter speed is too slow or ISO sensitivity is
high as the subject is dark. Noise can be
reduced by:
Using flash.
Specifying a lower ISO sensitivity setting.

pixels (“noise”) appear in
movies.
When recording movies in dim lighting, the
image may become somewhat “grainy” in
appearance. This occurs when the ISO sensitivity
increases, and it does not indicate a malfunction.
Images are too dark
(underexposed).
The flash mode is set to W (Off).
Flash window is blocked.
Subject is beyond flash range.
Adjust exposure compensation.
Increase ISO sensitivity.
Subject is backlit. Select Backlighting scene
mode or set the flash mode setting to X (Fill
flash).

Unexpected results when
flash set to V (Auto with
red-eye reduction).
When taking pictures with V (Auto with red-
eye reduction) or fill flash with slow sync and red-
eye reduction in Night portrait scene mode, In-
Camera Red Eye Fix may be applied to areas not
affected by red-eye. Use any scene mode other
than Night portrait, and change the flash mode
to any setting other than V (Auto with red-eye
reduction) and try shooting again.

Skin tones are not
softened.
Under some shooting conditions, facial skin
tones may not be softened.
Use e (Skin softening) for Glamour
retouch in the playback menu for images
containing more than three faces.

Saving images takes time.
It may take more time to save images in the
following situations.
When the noise reduction function is in
operation.
When the flash mode is set to V (Auto
with red-eye reduction).
When the skin softening function is applied
while shooting.
