The amount of light passed through a lens is expressed by a value
called “aperture value” (F value or F number). When the aperture is
fully open (maximum aperture), the maximum amount of light is
passed through the lens. This is the lens’ brightness and is
expressed by the “maximum aperture F value”. The maximum
aperture F value is obtained by dividing the focal length with the lens
diameter (D). The capital letter “F” is used to distinguish it from “f”,
which means the focal length.
SANYO defines the minimum
subject illumination to be the
level that produces the signal
level of 50 IRE in measuring
camera performance.
Always confirm the F value and the IRE level used in the
measurement. If the F value and the IRE level do not
match, then convert the values in camera specifications
using the following method.
