Setting up the Server for Event Monitoring by the Knowledge Module 6-5
Installation and Configuration Procedural Overview
Several of the actions that are involved in setting up the PATROL Agents
and PATROL KMs are performed on the PATROL DB-Admin server, and
some of these actions are performed on the machines where the PATROL
Agent and the PATROL Console reside. The following steps summarize
the recommended approach for installing and configuring PATROL
Agents and the PATROL DB-Admin KM.
Step 1 Install the PATROL DB-Admin server.
See “Installing the Server” on page 2-6 to install a server from a Unix
host or “Installing the Server” on page 5-4 to install a server from a
Windows NT host.
Step 2 Determine which servers you want to monitor, on which machines you
want your PATROL Agents to reside, and which machine will run the
PATROL Console.
Step 3 Ensure that the PATROL Application Management software has been
installed where your agents and the PATROL Console will reside or
currently reside.
Then, you can specify the $PATROL_HOME environment variable that
points to the location where you installed this software.
Step 4 Ensure that you have write authority to the PATROL_HOME directory.
Step 5 Install the PATROL DB-Admin KM software on every machine where
the PATROL Agents reside.
See “Installing the PATROL DB-Admin Knowledge Module” on page
6-7 for information on installing the KM.
Step 6 Install the PATROL DB-Admin KM software on the machine where your
PATROL Console resides.
Step 7 Configure the PATROL Agent for PATROL DB-Admin scheduling.
