Canon 30D Digital Camera User Manual

Picture Style
O
ne of the most notable new
features being incorporated
into the EOS line of digital
SLRs is Canon’s exclusive
Picture Style technology. With
Picture Style,
photographers are essentially free to choose a
variety of characteristics that simulate different
film emulsions and photographic expressions.
The six preset Picture Style settings and three
user-defined settings also allow for adjusting
sharpness, contrast, saturation and color tone,
creating noticeable variation in the saved
image. By selecting different parameters,
photographers can ensure that their images will
look
exactly as they like, right out of the camera,
so their images are ready for direct printing or
touching up. Of course, when shooting in
Picture Style, RAW files can be changed in post
processing, ensuring that “mistakes” can be
easily corrected after shooting.
Standard: default
setting; vivid,
contrasting images;
usable in a
wide variety of
conditions;
optimal for direct printing without further editing
Portrait: soft texture and warmer skin tones
Landscape: sharp images with particularly vivid
results for blue skies and green hues
Neutral: matches previous EOS Digital SLRs; low
c
ontrast and slight in-camera sharpening
Faithful: accurate reproduction of the subject's
colors based on colorimetric data
Monochrome: the EOS 30D’s black and white
mode; similar to silver halide film in black and
whit
e; also allows filter and toning effects
User-defined (1-3): application of the user's
own sharpness, contrast, saturation and color
tone settings (±4 stops in 1-stop increments) to
a preset Picture Style setting
The EOS 30D also features advanced camera direct
capabilities for further in-camera adjustments
to images right before printing
(see page 15).
This Canon exclusive not only saves time in
post-processing, it enhances your creativity
with its simplicity.
White Balance Control
The EOS 30D includes a number of white
balance modes for further customization:
