Choosing a Release Mode
The camera supports the following release modes:
Mode Description
S
Single frame
Camera takes one photograph each time shutter-release
button is pressed.
CL
Continuous
low speed
While shutter-release button is held down, camera records
1–5 frames per second.

Frame rate can be chosen using
Custom Setting d4 (CL mode shooting speed, pg. 299).
CH
Continuous
high speed
While shutter-release button is held down, camera records
up to 5 frames per second.

Live view
Frame pictures in monitor (pg. 89). Recommended at high
or low angles or in other situations in which viewfinder is
hard to use or when enlarged view in monitor can assist in
obtaining very precise focus.
E
Self-timer
Use self-timer for self-portraits or to reduce blurring caused
by camera shake (pg. 102).
MUP
Mirror up
Choose this mode to minimize camera shake in telephoto
or close-up photography or in other situations in which the
slightest camera movement can result in blurred
photographs (pg. 104).

or shutter-priority auto exposure, a shutter speed of
