Troubleshooting

If, after following the steps in the chart below, the problem still exists, please consult your
nearest JVC dealer.
Problem Possible Cause Remedy
Recording cannot be
performed.
The tape’s erase protection tab is
set to “SAVE”.
“TAPE END” appears.
The cassette holder cover is open.
« Set the tape’s erase protection tab
to “REC” ( 18).
« Replace with new cassette ( 18).
« Close the cassette holder cover.
When shooting a
subject illuminated by
bright light, vertical
lines appear.
This is not a malfunction.
When the screen is
under direct sunlight
during shooting, the
screen becomes red or
black for an instant.
This is not a malfunction.
The LCD monitor
indications blink.
Effects function that cannot be
used together are selected at the
same time.
« Re-read the sections covering
Effects ( 39).
The focus does not
adjust automatically.
Focus is set to the Manual mode.
The lens is dirty or covered with
condensation.
« Set Focus to the Auto mode ( 35).
« Clean the lens and check the
focus again ( 35).
The image looks like
the shutter speed is
too slow.
When shooting in the dark, the
unit becomes highly sensitive to
light when “GAIN UP” is set to
“AUTO”.
« If you want the lighting to look
more natural, set “GAIN UP” to
“AGC” or “OFF” ( 29).
Images on the LCD
monitor appear dark or
whitish.
In places subject to low
temperature, images become
dark due to the characteristics
of the LCD monitor. This is not a
malfunction.
« Adjust the brightness and angle of
the LCD monitor ( 12, 18).
Picture does not
appear on the LCD
monitor.
The LCD monitor’s brightness
setting is too dark.
« Adjust the brightness of the LCD
monitor ( 18).
« If the monitor is tilted upward 180
degrees, open the monitor fully.

Aspect ratio is strange.
« If the aspect ratio of the video you
are playing is strange, change the
setting in “WIDE TV” ( 31, 33).
No power is supplied. The power is not connected
properly.
The battery pack is not attached
fi rmly.
The battery is dead.
« Connect the AC Adapter securely.

« Detach the battery pack once
again and re-attach it fi rmly. ( 16)
« Replace the dead battery with a
fully charged one. ( 16)
The POWER/CHARGE
lamp on the camcorder
does not light during
charging.
Charging is diffi cult in places
subject to extremely high/low
temperatures.
The battery pack is not attached
fi rmly.
« To protect the battery, it is
recommended to charge it in
places with a temperature of 10°C
to 35°C (50°F to 95°F). ( 46)
« Detach the battery pack once
again and re-attach it fi rmly. ( 16)
