Recording Movies
Movies can be recorded at 24 fps in live view mode.
1 Press the a button.
The mirror is raised and the view through the
lens is displayed in the monitor instead of the
viewfinder.
2 Focus.
Frame the opening shot and press the shutter-release button
halfway.
Shooting can not begin until the camera has focused.
Autofocus is not available after recording begins; use manual focus to
focus (0 60) during recording.
3 Start recording.
Press J to start recording (at default settings,
both video and sound are recorded; do not cover
the microphone on the front of the camera
during recording).
A recording indicator and the
time available are displayed in the monitor.
Exposure can be locked by pressing the AE-L/AF-L
button (0 89) or (in P, S, and A) altered by up to
±3 EV in steps of
1
/3 EV using exposure compensation (0 90).
4 End recording.
Press J again to end recording (to end
recording and take a still picture in the mode
currently selected with the mode dial, press the
shutter-release button all the way down).
Recording will end automatically
when the maximum size is reached or the memory card is full.
D The 0 Icon
A 0 icon (0 42) indicates that movies can not be
recorded.
A Modes A and M
Set aperture before recording in mode A or M.
A Maximum Size
Each movie file can be up to 2 GB in size.
The maximum length is 5 min for movies with
a frame size of 1280 × 720, 20 min for other movies; note that depending on memory
card write speed, shooting may end before this length is reached.
