More often than not, school sports days end
up being organised chaos, but they are just so
much fun and very rewarding to photograph.
Their unpredictability means you need to be
ready to capture anything from the egg and
spoon race to a full on sprint at a moment’s
notice. In the Sports Scene mode, the NX sorts
all the technical bits and bobs so all you have
to do is zoom your lens and click the shutter.
For running races, rather than shoot from the
side as the competitors pass, try moving to
just beyond the inish line. This means a less
cluttered background to your picture, plus you
can photograph your child running the whole
length of the race.

DON’T FORGET: A TELEPHOTO LENS
A long telephoto lens will allow you to ill the frame with just your child
as they run, or to frame-up candid moments in close.
Burst mode ires up to 30
frames in a single second,
so every detail, from a facial
expression to a ‘loating’
ball or beanbag can be
caught on camera.
On overcast days turn on the Auto ISO option – via the iFn button on
the lens – so you can shoot without the need for lash.
