Choose the role played by the A (L) button.
Reverse the direction of rotation of the command dial when
they are used to make adjustments to exposure or flash
compensation (Exposure compensation) and/or shutter speed
and aperture (Shutter speed/aperture).
Highlight options and
press 2 to select or deselect, then press J.
If Release locked is selected, the shutter-release button is only enabled when a
memory card is inserted in the camera.
Selecting Enable release allows the shutter
to be released when no memory card is inserted, although no pictures will be
recorded (they will however be displayed in the monitor in demo mode).
If (V) is selected, the exposure indicators in the viewfinder and
information display are displayed with positive values on the left and negative values
on the right.
Select (W) to display negative values on the left and
positive values on the right.

AE/AF lock
Focus and exposure lock while the A (L) button is
pressed.
C
AE lock only Exposure locks while the A (L) button is pressed.
E
AE lock (Hold)
Exposure locks when the A (L) button is pressed,
and remains locked until the button is pressed a
second time or the standby timer expires.
F
AF lock only Focus locks while the A (L) button is pressed.
A AF-ON
The A (L) button initiates autofocus.
The shutter-
release button can not be used to focus.
