LCD monitor
1: The brightness of the screen
becomes dark or bright for a moment.
This phenomenon appears when
pressing the shutter button halfway to
set the aperture value and does not
affect the recorded pictures.
2: The picture is not displayed on the
LCD monitor.
Does the picture appear on the
Viewfinder?
Press the [EVF/LCD] button to switch
to LCD monitor display.
3: The screen is too bright or dark.
Adjust the brightness of the screen.
4: Some pixels are inactive or always lit
on the LCD monitor.
These pixels do not affect the recorded
pictures.
This is not a malfunction.
5: Noise appears on the LCD monitor.
In dark places, noise may appear to
maintain the brightness of the LCD
monitor.
This does not affect the pictures you are
recording.
6: A vertical line appears on the LCD
monitor.
This is called smear. It is specific to
CCD, not a malfunction. It appears
when the subject has a bright part.
Horizontal line distortion may also
appear around the smear. It is
recorded on motion pictures, but not
recorded on still pictures.
7: Distortion in the LCD monitor.
When holding the edge of the LCD
monitor, there may be some distortion,
however this is not a malfunction.
Moreover, this has no affect on the
taken pictures or playback.
Flash
1: Flash is not activated.
Is the flash closed?
Slide the [ OPEN] lever to open the
flash.
In motion picture mode [ ] and
[SCENERY] (P73), [NIGHT SCENERY]
(P74), [FIREWORKS] (P77) or
[STARRY SKY] (P79) in scene mode,
the flash setting is fixed to Forced OFF
[ ] even if the flash is opened.
2: The flash is activated 2 times.
When you select AUTO/Red-eye
reduction [ ], the first flash is
activated for red-eye prevention on the
subject (red-eye phenomenon) before
actually recording pictures. After the
first flash, the flash is activated again for
recording.
Playback
1: Pictures being played are rotated and
displayed in an unexpected direction.
The camera has a function to
automatically rotate and display pictures
recorded by holding the camera
vertically.
(If you take pictures aiming the camera
up or down, the camera may recognise
that it is held vertically.)
When [ROTATE DISP.] (P104) is set to
[OFF], you can display the pictures
without being rotated.
You can rotate pictures with [ROTATE]
function (P105).
2: The picture is not played back.
Is the mode dial set to playback [ ]?
Is the card inserted?
Is there a picture in the card?
