Using Variable Shutter Speeds

Because your camcorder has a variable
shutter, you can choose AE (automatic
exposure) or one of six shutter speeds
(1/60, 1/120, 1/250, 1/1000, 1/2000, and
1/10000 second). The POWER switch
must be in the CAMERA position.
When the AE (automatic) shutter speed is
selected, the camcorder automatically
selects a shutter speed of AE:60, AE:100
AE:120, or AE:250 second according to
the lighting condition.
The higher shutter speeds are
recommended when you are taping fast-
moving action outdoors that you plan to
play back on a (3-5 head) VCR or
camcorder using special effects (such as
stop-action pause and slow motion). The
higher shutter speeds produce better
performance during special effect
playback.
A tape recorded at the higher shutter
speeds may not show movement and
change of scene as smoothly as
recordings at the normal 1/60 second
speed.
For indoor high-speed shutter recording,
you may find that additional halogen or
tungsten lighting is required.
When recording at higher shutter speeds,
use of fluorescent, mercury vapor, or
sodium lighting may cause a “flickering”
effect.
