This is a CCD phenomenon known as “vertical
smear”, and does not indicate malfunction of the
camera. Note that vertical smear is not recorded
with the image in the case of a snapshot, but it is
recorded in the case of a movie.
Change the focus to Manual Focus or Pan Focus,
which will eliminate Auto Focus operation noise
(pages 74, 75).
1) Record within the allowable shooting range.
2) Try changing the focus mode to Manual Focus
(page 75) or Pan Focus (page 74).
3) Try pointing the camera at another subject
momentarily. This may correct the problem.
Use a light or some other means to illuminate the
subject.
Vertical lines on the
monitor screen.
Noise in audio.
Out of focus images.
Digital noise in images.
Recording a very brightly lit subject can cause a
vertical band to appear in the monitor screen
image.
Auto Focus, zoom, and aperture operation noise.
1) The subject is outside the shooting range of the
camera.
2) Subject type is difficult to focus.
3) Subject is not compatible with Auto Focus.
Sensitivity is increased automatically for dark
subjects. Greater sensitivity increases the chance
of digital noise.
