Making connections
You can connect your digital camera to a computer
in order to transfer files from your camera's internal
memory or memory card to your computer.
Connecting the camera to a computer
To connect the camera to a computer:
1 Connect the camera to the computer using the
supplied USB cable.
2 Turn on your camera.
The computer detects the connection and the
camera’s internal memory and memory card are
shown as removable drives on the computer’s file
manager screen. No image is displayed on the
camera’s LCD.
Troubleshooting
Note
You can also move files to your computer by
removing the memory card from your camera and
plugging it into an external card reader (not
included).
Problem Cause Solution
Power does not turn on. Batteries are inserted
incorrectly.
Reinstall the batteries
correctly.
The batteries are dead. Replace the batteries or
recharge the batteries if they
are NiMH.
The battery compartment
door is open.
Make sure that the battery
compartment door is closed.
The camera turns off
automatically.
Your camera turns itself off
automatically in order to
conserve battery life.
Press any button (except
POWER) to turn your camera
back on.
The LCD turns off. Your camera turns itself off
automatically in order to
conserve battery life.
Press the Power button to
turn your camera back on.
An empty battery icon is
displayed on the LCD, then
the camera turns off.
The batteries are exhausted. Replace the batteries or
recharge the batteries if they
are NiMH.
The LCD displays “No
Image.”
No images have been stored
to the internal memory or
memory card, or image files
on the memory card cannot
be read by the camera.
Set your camera to Record
mode to capture photos or
video. Or, connect your
camera to your computer
using the instructions on
page 17 to view files. Your
camera may not be able to
display images or videos
taken with other cameras or
where the file names have
been altered.
The LCD displays “Not
available for this file.”
The selected function is only
available for selected file
types. The file format is not
supported.
Choose another type of
format.
The LCD displays “Memory
full.”
The internal memory or the
memory card is full.
Replace the memory card or
delete unnecessary images.
The LCD displays “Card
locked.”
The memory card is
protected.
Turn off the camera, remove
the memory card, and slide
the card’s write-protect
switch to its unlock position.
The LCD displays “Format
error.”
The memory card is
protected.
Turn off the camera, remove
the memory card, and slide
the card’s write-protect
switch to its unlock position.
The LCD displays “Copy
error.”
The memory card is
protected.
The memory card is full.
Turn off the camera, remove
the memory card, and slide
the write-protect switch to
its unlock position.
Replace the memory card or
delete unnecessary files.
The lens does not retract. DO NOT FORCE THE LENS TO
GO BACK. You may have
installed the wrong type of
battery or the battery level is
too low.
Replace the batteries or
recharge the batteries if they
are NiMH, then hold down
the POWER button until the
lens retracts.
The camera does not take
pictures.
The flash is charging. Wait for the flash to charge.
The memory is full. Insert a new memory card or
delete unwanted photos or
videos.
The memory card is not
formatted correctly.
The card may be defective.
Install a new card.
The image is not recorded
when the shutter button is
pressed.
The flash is charging. Wait for the flash to charge.
The memory is full. Insert a new memory card.
The flash does not fire. The flash is set to OFF. Set the flash to another
mode.
The image is blurry or out
of focus.
The camera was moving
when the image was
captured.
Hold the camera steady when
shooting a photo, or mount it
to a tripod.
The subject was beyond the
range of the camera’s focus.
Turn macro mode ON if the
subject is within 5 to 15.75
inches (15 to 40 cm).
Do not use macro mode
when shooting distant
subjects.
The image is not displayed
on the LCD.
A memory card with
non-compatible photos and
videos (recorded on another
camera) is loaded.
This camera cannot display
non-compatible images.
Recorded images are not
saved in memory.
The camera was turned off or
powered down before the
image was stored in memory.
If the low battery indicator
appears on the LCD, replace
the batteries immediately.
Card error The memory card format may
not be correct.
Using an external card reader
(not included), reformat the
card using the FAT file format.
Use normal Windows or Mac
procedures to carry out this
operation.
