Shooting still images / movies
The power turns off
suddenly.
If you do not operate the camera for about 90
seconds while the power is on, the camera turns
off automatically to prevent wearing down the
battery (when [Power Save] is [Off], after three
minutes.) (page 17).
The batteries are discharged.
pTurn on the camera again (page 20).
pInstall charged batteries (page 14).
Symptom Cause Solution
The LCD screen is not
turned on even when the
power is turned on.
The power was turned off with the LCD screen
turned off the last time you used the camera.

The subject is not visible
on the LCD screen.

The image is out of focus. The subject is too close.
While shooting still images, (Camera) is

You set the focus preset distance.
pSet the macro recording mode (DSC-P72 only). Make sure to
place the lens farther away from the subject than the shortest
shooting distance when shooting (page 30).
pCancel the mode (page58).
pSet to the auto focus mode (page 49).
Unable to zoom (DSC-P52/
P72 only).
You cannot zoom while shooting a movie
(MPEG movie).
Smart zoom does not
function.
You cannot use smart zoom while shooting a
movie (MPEG movie).
The LCD screen is turned off.
•The
image size is set to [3.1M] or [2.8M (3:2)].
[Smart Zoom] is set to [Off] in the SET UP
settings (DSC-P52/P72 only).
pTurn on the LCD screen (page34).
pSet image size to other settings except [3.1M] and [2.8M (3:2)]
(page 29).
pSet [Smart Zoom] to [On] (page 106).
The image is too dark. You are shooting a subject with a light source
behind the subject.
The brightness of the LCD screen is too low.
