Recording
Problem
"_ ' flashes red on the
screen.
Image will not appear on the
screen.
"SET THE TIME ZONE,
DATE AND TIME' appears on
the screen.
Pressing the start/stop button
will not start recording.
Camcorder will not focus.
A vertical light bar appears on
the screen.
Cause
The camcorder malfunctions.
Camcorder is not set to
CAMERA mode.
Time zone, date and time are
not set.
Backup battery is exhausted.

Battery pack is inserted the 17
wrong way.
Camcorder is turned off.
Cassette is not loaded.
Tape reached the end
("_ END" fashes on the
screen).
Cassette is protected ("l_"
flashes on the screen).
Camcorder is set to a mode
other than the CAMERA
mode.
Autofocus does not work on
that subject.
Viewfinder is not adjusted.
Solution
Consult a Canon Service
Center.
Set the camcorder to
CAMERA mode.
Set the time zone, date and
time.
Replace the backup battery
and reset the time zone, date
and time.
Insert the backup battery with
the + side facing outward and
set the time zone, date and
time.
Turn on the power.
Load a cassette.
Rewind the tape or replace
the cassette.
Change the position of the
protect switch.
Set the camcorder to
CAMERA mode.
Focus manually.
Adjust the viewfinder with the
dioptric adjustment lever.
Clean the lens.
Lens is dirty.
Bright light in a dark scene
may cause a vertical light bar
(smear) to appear. This is not
a malfunction.
Viewfinder is not adjusted.

Viewfinder picture is blurred. Adjust the viewfinder with the 18
dioptric adjustment leve_:
Sound is distorted or
recorded in a lower volume
than the actual volume.
When recording near loud
sound (such as fireworks,
drums or concerts), sound
may become distorted or may
not be recorded in the actual
sound level. This is not a
malfunction.
