The Shooting Menu (for A (Auto) Mode)
Image Mode (Image Size and Quality)
You can select the combination of image size and image quality (i.e., image compression
ratio) that is used when saving images.
Select the image mode best suited to the manner in which images are used and the capacity
of the internal memory or memory card.
* The total number of pixels captured, and the number of pixels captured horizontally and vertically.
Example: P 4608×3456 = approx. 16 megapixels, 4608×3456 pixels

Images are higher quality than P. The compression ratio is
approx. 1:4.
P 4608×3456 (default setting)
Best choice in most situations. The compression ratio is
approx. 1:8.
R 3264×2448
r 2272×1704
q 1600×1200
Smaller size than P, R, and r and therefore allows more
images to be saved. The compression ratio is approx. 1:8.
O 640×480
Suited to full-screen display on a TV with an aspect ratio
(width:length) of 4:3, or distribution by e-mail. The compression
ratio is approx. 1:8.
g 4608×2592
Images with an aspect ratio (width:length) of 16:9 are saved.
The compression ratio is approx. 1:8.
C Notes About Image Mode
The setting is also applied to other shooting modes.
Some settings cannot be used with other functions (A 65).
Image mode cannot be selected when using Easy panorama (A42) or 3D photography
(A44) in scene mode.
