Step 1 Turn the Camera On and Select A (Auto) Mode

If the monitor is turned off in standby mode to save power, press the power switch
or the shutter-release button to turn the monitor on (A165).
D Note on the Flash
When the built-in flash is lowered, the flash setting is fixed to off and W appears at the top of the
monitor. In situations where flash is needed, such as in dark locations or when the subject is backlit,
be sure to raise the built-in flash (A35).
D Functions Available in A (Auto) Mode
Focus mode (A38) and exposure compensation (A41) can be applied and pictures can be taken
using the flash mode (A34) and self-timer (A37).
Pressing the d button allows you to specify settings for the shooting menu options Image
quality (A75) and Image size (A76).
D Vibration Reduction
See Vibration reduction (A160) in the setup menu (A152) for more information.
Set Vibration reduction to Off when using a tripod to stabilize the camera during shooting.

Internal memory indicator
Pictures will be recorded to internal memory
(approx. 43 MB).
When a memory card is inserted, C is not
displayed and pictures will be recorded to
the memory card.
