Record mode
Zoom in/out function
You can zoom in up to 32× optically.
oSet to Tape/Card Recording Mode.
1 Wide-angle recording (zoom out):
Push the [W/T] lever towards [W].
Close=up recording (zoom in):
Push the [W/T] lever towards [T].

When zooming in and taking a picture while
holding the Camcorder by hand, we recommend
using the optical image stabilizer function.
oWhen you are zooming in on a faraway subject,
a sharper focus is achieved ifthe recording
subject is 1.3 m (4.3 feet) or further from the
Camcorder.
oWhen the zoom speed is high, the subject may
not be focused easily.
oWhen the zoom magnification is 1x, the
Camcorder can focus on a subject approx. 2 cm
(0.8 inches) away from the lens.
oBe aware that a mechanical sound may be
recorded when the [W/T] lever is released while
zooming. Gently move the zoom lever back to
it's original position before releasing it.
Digital zoom function
If the zoom magnification exceeds 32 times, then
the digital zoom function will be activated. The
digital zoom function allows you to select a
magnification from 50× to 1000×.
• Set to Tape Recording Mode.
1 Set [ADVANCED] >> [D.ZOOM] >> [50×] or
[1000×].
[OFF]:Optical zoom only (Up to 32×)
[50×]:Digital zoom (Up to 50×)
[1000×]:Digital zoom (Up to 1000×)
• The larger the digital zoom magnification, the
more the image quality is degraded.
• When the Card Recording mode is used, the
digital zoom function cannot be used.
About the variable speed zoom
function
• The zoom speed varies according to the amount
of movement of the [W/T] lever.
To use the zoom microphone function
Interlocked with the zooming operation, the
microphone will clearly capture sounds far away
with the tele-shot or those in the vicinity with the
wide-angle shot.
Set to Tape Recording Mode.
1 Set [ADVANCED] >> [ZOOM MIC] >> [ON].
