Autofocus operation depends on general lighting, subject contrast and
detail, and other technical points.
In
those rare situations where autofocus
is not possible, • blinks inside the viewfinder.
Very
dark
subject
Focus manually (page 45). Or for
autofocus, focus on another,
brighter subject located at the same
distance, recompose with the
shutter release button lightly
pressed, then shoot.
You can also use the built-in flash,
or
an
accessory Nikon Speed light.

Low-contrast subject
Focus manually (page 45). Or for
autofocus, focus on another subject
at the same distance but with more
contrast, recompose with the
shutter release button lightly
pressed, then shoot.
When the focus brackets are
positioned
on
the following
subjects/scenes, ignore
in-
focus.

Scenes with subjects
located
at
different
distances
Bright
subjects with a
shiny surface, such as
silver
or
aluminum
Strongly backlit subjects
When
·using a
linear
polarizing filter,
or
a
special filter, e.g., a soft-
focus filter. (Circular
polarizing filters can
be
used for autofocus.)
