Adjusting Focus Manually
The camcorder focuses automatically. All you have to do is point and the subject in
the center of the screen will usually be in sharp focus. It may happen that a subject
is not suitable for autofocus. Use the manual focusing function to adjust the focus.
1. Press the FOCUS button to turn the autofocus off.
The focus remains locked at the point set by autofocus.
2. Use the selector dial to set the focus.
Turn the selector dial downward to move the focus farther away.
Turn the selector dial upwards to bring the focus nearer.
If you zoom in on your subject after turning off the autofocus, it may not
stay in focus. It is generally best to adjust the zoom first and then the focus.
Notes:
If the e icon is shown before AE, the focus cannot be adjusted manually. Press
the focus button again to bring the e icon before MF.
The camcorder will return to autofocus when selecting the [ (Easy Recording)
program.
Autofocus can not be turned off in [ (Easy Recording) program.
See “Troubleshooting” on p. 152 for a list of subjects that may not be suitable
for autofocus.
Use this function when you wish to focus on faraway subjects such as mountains
or fireworks.
Press the FOCUS button more than 3 seconds in step 2 above to
record in infinity focus mode.
The MFicon will appear on the display.
will disappear when you operate the zoom or the selector dial and the
camcorder will change to manual focus.
