Internet Camera Installation
Q: Can the DCS-900W be used outdoors?
A: The DCS-900W is not weatherproof. It is not recommended that you use the camera
outdoors.
Q: What network cabling is required for the Internet Camera?
A: The Internet Camera uses Category 5 UTP Twisted-pair cable allowing 10 Base-T and
100 Base-T networking.
Q: Can the Internet Camera be setup as a PC-cam on the computer?
A: No, the Internet Camera is used only on Ethernet and Fast Ethernet network and
supported by wireless transmission.
Q: Can the Internet Camera be connected on the network if it consists of only
private IP Addresses?
A: Yes, the Internet Camera can be connected to a LAN with private IP Addresses.
Q: Can the Internet Camera be installed if a firewall exists on the network?
A: If a firewall exists on the network, port 80 needs to be open. If port 80 is not available,
a second port needs to be opened. Optonal ports are 800, 801, 802, etc. The corresponding
port needs to be opened on the firewall as well.
Troubleshooting
Q: I cannot access the Internet Camera from a web browser.
A1: Make sure that the IP address of the camera is assigned the same subnet as your
network.
! Go to Start > Run, type Command, and click OK.
! Type ipconfig/all into the DOS window.
! The IP address, subnet mask, default gaetway, and 2 DNS servers for your network
will appear in the window. Take note of these values to verify with your camera’s
configurations.
! Run the Setup Wizard again.
! When the Set IP Address page appears, change the camera’s IP address to be
consistent with your network IP address, subnet mask, gateway, and DNS servers.
