Read Battery Warnings
Read and follow all warnings and instructions supplied by the battery
manufacturer.
Formatting Memory Cards
The memory card supplied with your camera is formatted at shipment. Other
memory cards, however, must be formatted before first use. For information
on formatting memory cards, see “Camera Setup: CF Card Format” ( 62).

.2 Turn the camera off
Before inserting or removing the battery or
memory card, be sure the mode selector is
in the “OFF” position.

.3 Open the battery-chamber/memory card slot cover
Slide the cover latch in the direction of the icon (A1) until the red dot
is visible (A2), indicating that the cover is unlatched. Slide the cover out
(B) and flip it open (C).

.4 Insert the battery and memory card
Insert a fully-charged EN-EL2 battery with
the “+” and “–” contacts oriented as shown
in the label on the underside of the battery-
chamber/memory card slot cover (A). Insert
the memory card as shown in the label at
the entrance to the memory card slot (B),
sliding it in until it is firmly in place and the
eject button pops up (the card is fully in-
serted when the top of the card is level with
the top of the eject button).
