Focus.
Press the shutter button halfway
to set focus and exposure for the
subject in the green border.
3 Caution
In some modes, the camera may set exposure for
the frame as a whole rather than the portrait sub-
ject. If no face is detected when the shutter but-
ton is pressed halfway (pg. 96), the camera will
focus on the subject at the center of the display
and red-eye will not be removed.

Shoot.
Press the shutter button all the
way down to shoot.
3 Caution
If the subject moves as the shutter button is
pressed, their face may not be in the area indi-
cated by the green border when the picture is
taken.
If q FACE DETECTION ON

selected, the picture will be
processed to reduce red-eye
before it is recorded.

Intelligent Face Detection is
recommended when using
the self-timer for group- or
self-portraits (pg. 32).

When setting focus and exposure, the camera gives
priority to subjects in its face recognition database
(pg. 38), and subjects identi ed in this manner can
later be located using image search (pg. 52). When
a picture taken with Intelligent Face Detection is dis-
played, the camera can automatically select faces for
playback zoom (pg. 43), red-eye removal (pg. 51), slide
shows (pg. 77), and when ZOOM (CONTINUOUS) is
selected for A IMAGE DISP. (pg. 83).
