Taking Pictures
1 Press the b button in Capture mode.
This will switch Flash modes, and the current icon will be displayed on
the LCD monitor.
The camera is ready to take a picture in the selected Flash mode.
Selecting the Flash Mode
(No icon) Auto
The flash discharges automatically based on light
conditions.

Flash Off
The flash never discharges regardless of light
conditions.

Flash On
The flash always discharges regardless of light
conditions.

Auto flash + red-eye
reduction
Reduces red-eye in the picture, caused by the flash
reflecting from the subject’s eyes. The flash
discharges automatically.

Flash On + red-eye
reduction
Reduces red-eye in the picture, caused by the flash
reflecting from the subject’s eyes.
The flash discharges regardless of lighting conditions.
• The flash is always off when the Capture mode is set to C, Continuous
shooting, Infinity-Landscape, or Fireworks.
• When using the flash, it always discharges once before taking the
picture, to assist with metering.
• In [Auto flash + Red-eye Reduction] and [Flash On + Red-eye
Reduction] modes, the flash discharges once to make the pupils of the
subjects eyes smaller shortly before the main flash discharges to take
the picture.
• The shutter speed will be slower with the flash off, or in low light
conditions such as a night scene. Use a tripod to prevent camera
movement.
