AF Area Mode

(Shooting menu) area
Use this option to determine how the camera selects the focus area for autofocus.
[_] Face priority (default Setting)
When the camera detects a human face, it focuses
on that face. See "Face Detection" (_ 56) for more ......................
information. If more than one face isdetected, the
camera focuses on the face closest to the camera.
When taking pictures of subjects other than people,
or framing a subject with which no face is detected,
the AF area mode setting switches to Auto, and the
camera will automatically sdect the focus area (up to
nine areas) containing the subject closest to the Focug area
camera.
AUT0 Auto
The camera has nine focus areas, and automatically
selects the focus areas containing the subject closest _
to the camera. Pressthe shutter-release button
halfway to activate the focus area. When the shutter-
release button is pressed halfway, the focus areas
that are infocus (up to nine areas) selected by the
camera will be displayed in the monitor.

Select one of 9g focus areas in the monitor. This
option is suited to situations in which the intended
subject is relatively still and not positioned in the
center of the frame.
Rotate the rotary multi selector or press A, V, ,, or
to move the focus area to where the subject is,
and take a picture.
To change settings for any of the following
functions, first press the _) button to cancel focus-
area selection, then change the settings asdesired.
- Flash mode, macro mode, self-timer
- Brightness (exposure compensation), vividness, hue
To return to the focus area selection screen, press the _) button again.
