Using the Zoom
When you press the multi-selector H or I, the zoom indicator is displayed on the right side
of the monitor and the optical zoom is activated.
• To zoom in closer to the subject, press H (telephoto).
• To zoom out and view a larger area, press I (wide-angle).
When you turn the camera on, the zoom moves to the maximum wide-angle position.
• If you press H when the camera is zoomed
in to the maximum optical zoom position,
you can use the digital zoom to magnify the
image further by up to about 4×.

C Digital Zoom and Interpolation
Unlike optical zoom, digital zoom uses a digital imaging process known as interpolation to magnify
images, resulting in slight deterioration of picture quality depending on the image size and the
digital zoom magnification.
When using digital zoom, we recommend reducing the image size in A Photo size under
CChoose a size in order to minimize image deterioration (A54).
