Use to capture natural lighting un-
der dim light or where use of fl ash is
prohibited. Care should be taken to
avoid blurring when lighting is poor.
Auto with red-eye
reduction
Built-in Speedlight fi res sev-
eral times at low-intensity
before main fl ash; pictures
are processed to reduce red-
eye if required (

Use for portraits (works best if sub-
ject looks directly at pre-fl ash). Not
recommended when quick shutter
response is required.
Anytime Flash

Built-in Speedlight fi res
whenever picture is taken.
Use to “fi ll-in” (illuminate) shadows
and back-lit subjects.
Slow sync
Auto fl ash combined with
slow shutter speeds.
Use to capture both subject and
background at night or under dim
light. Care should be taken to avoid
blurring when lighting is poor.
Rear curtain sync
Shutter speed slows; built-in
Speedlight fi res just before
shutter closes.
Creates stream of light trailing mov-
ing objects. Care should be taken to
avoid blurring when lighting is poor.
Auto Flash Off
The built-in Speedlight turns off automatically when focus is set to infi nity ( 40), an
option other than Time-lapse movie is selected in movie mode ( 58), an option other
than Single or Intvl timer shooting is selected for Continuous ( 88), BSS ( 91) is
active, a setting other than Normal is selected for Lens ( 97), AE lock ( 98) is on, or
Internal off is selected for Speedlight opt. > Speedlight cntrl ( 105).
