Basic Photography and Playback: A (Auto) Mode
Taking Pictures with the Self-Timer
The self-timer is suitable for taking group pictures and reducing the vibration when
the shutter-release button is pressed. Timer durations of two or ten seconds can be
selected.
When using the self-timer, use of a tripod is recommended. Set Vibration
reduction (A175) in the setup menu (A167) to Off when using a tripod to
stabilize the camera.

Press n (self-timer) on the rotary multi
selector.
• The self-timer menu is displayed.

Use the rotary multi selector to choose Y 10s
or Y 2s and press the k button.
• Y 10s (ten seconds): suitable for group pictures.
• Y 2s (two seconds): suitable for preventing camera
shake.
• The mode selected for the self-timer is displayed.
• If the k button is not pressed within a few seconds, the
selection is set and the setting menu disappears.

Frame the picture and press the
shutter-release button halfway.
• The focus and exposure are set.

Press the shutter-release button the
rest of the way down.
• The self-timer starts, and the number of
seconds remaining before the shutter is
released is displayed. The self-timer lamp
blinks while the timer is counting down.
About one second before the shutter is
released, the lamp stops blinking and remains
lit.
• When the shutter is released, the self-timer
turns Off.
• To stop the timer before a picture is taken,
press the shutter-release button again.
