Taking motion pictures

Recording still pictures while taking a motion picture
Still pictures can be recorded even while a motion picture is being taken.

• The clicking sound made when the shutter button is operated may be recorded.
• When still pictures are recorded while simultaneously using the lens’s zoom
function, the zooming may stop.
• Using [Miniature Effect] in [Creative Control] mode, a still picture may be recorded
with a slight delay from the time when the shutter button is pressed fully.
Serial exposure function
When the serial exposure function has been set in advance, a series of still pictures can
be recorded while taking a motion picture.
• When the serial exposure setting is set to , or , still pictures are automatically
recorded using the setting.
• Even at the or setting, the focus is fixed at the first picture.
When you press the shutter button halfway while taking a motion picture, the camera
will automatically refocus on a subject. This refocus movement is recorded, i.e. it will
be visible. When priority is to be given to the motion pictures, press the shutter button
fully, and record the still pictures. Still pictures can also be extracted after motion
picture recording is completed. (→49)
When the shutter button is pressed halfway, the resolution and the number of
recordable pictures are displayed.
Still pictures cannot be recorded in the following cases:
• When [Rec Quality] is set to [VGA]
The flash is set to [Forced Flash Off].
Since the electronic shutter is used for motion pictures, the recorded still pictures may
be distorted.
Compared to normal still picture recording, the resolution may be lower.
You cannot record pictures in RAW file format. (Only pictures in JPEG file format with
the [Quality] setting [ ] can be recorded.)
