Shooting with Optical
Zoom
If you use the z (Telephoto): T/ Z (Wide-
angle): W buttons, you can alter the size of
the subject in your photo without having to
change your distance from the subject.
(Equivalent to a 35mm camera's 28 to 85mm
zoom.)
Optical Zoom
This function enlarges your subject by mov-
ing the lens, thus changing the focal length.
By pressing the z (Telephoto) button, the
subject you see in the LCD Monitor and the
Viewfinder becomes larger.
By pressing the Z (Wide-Angle) button, the
field in the LCD Monitor and the Viewfinder
becomes wider.
To shoot with the zoom, follow the steps
below.
1. Turn the mode dial to 5

5 (Shoot-
ing Mode) or A/M (Aperture Pri-
ority/Manual Exposure Mode).
2. Compose your picture while
viewing either the LCD Monitor
or the Viewfinder and zoom by
pressing either the z
zz
z button, or
the Z
ZZ
Z button.
A bar is displayed in the LCD Monitor
indicating Zoom status.
3. Press the shutter button.
When the step zooming function is set to ON
in SETUP Mode, the display magnification
can be fixed to any of four levels.
