Setting the Shutter
Speed (TIME EXPOSURE)
If you set the shutter speed, when you shoot,
the shutter stays open for the specified time.
By setting the shutter speed, you can capture
the track of moving subjects such as fire-
works and car lights, when you shoot a night
scene.
You can select an exposure time of 1, 2, 4 or
8 seconds.
By default, the Time Exposure is set to
OFF.
When the shutter speed is set, the shutter
speed may go down and images may be
blurred. Hold the camera securely by both
hands or use a tripod for shooting.
While shooting with the shutter speed set,
the LCD Monitor display turns off.
To set the desired shutter speed for time
exposure, follow the steps below.
1. Turn the mode dial to 5

5 (Shoot-
ing Mode) or A/M (Aperture Pri-
ority/Manual Exposure Mode).
2. Press the M
MM
M button.
The Shooting menu appears.
3. Press the #$
#$ #$
#$ buttons to switch
screens as required.
4. Select [TIME EXPOSURE] and
press the O
OO
O or $
$$
$ button.
5. Press the !"
!"!"
!" buttons to select
a shutter speed.
6. Press the O
OO
O or #
##
# button.
This completes the setting of time expo-
sure.
7. If you pressed the #
##
# button,
press also the M
MM
M button.
The Shooting menu disappears and the
setting is displayed in the bottom part on
the screen.
This setting will be used for shooting until
you change it.
If the shutter speed is set to one second
or more, it takes time to complete record-
ing because the picture noise elimination
function is activated.
