Set Exposure Setting Steps in [Expsr Setting Steps] in [A Custom Setting]
to increments of 1/2 EV or 1/3 EV.
AE Lock is a function that memorizes the exposure prior to taking the
picture. Use this when the subject is too small or backlit and a proper
exposure setting cannot be obtained.

Press the L button.
The camera memorizes the exposure
(brightness) at that instant.
Press it again to unlock.

The exposure remains in mem or y for t wi ce as much tim e as the meter in g
timer after rele asing the L button. The exposure remains locked as long
as the L button is kept pr essed or the shut t er release butt on i s kept
presse d halfway.
You will hear a beep when th e L button i s pressed. Th e beep can be

AE lock is not a vailable w hen the e xposure mode i s
a
(Manual) or

(Bulb) mo de.
The combination of shutter speed and aperture value changes depending on
the zooming position even while the AE lock is engaged when using a zoom
lens for which max imum ape rtur e varies dep ending on the fo cal length.
However, the exposure value does not change and the picture is taken at the
brightn ess level set by th e AE l ock .
I f the exposure m ode is a (Manu al), th e aperture and/ or shutter sp eed are
autom at ically adjust ed to set the appropria te exposure w hen the L
button is pr essed. (p.142)
Exposure can be fixed when focus is locked. Set in [AE-L with AF locked] in
the [A Cu stom Setting] menu. (p.127)
