Choose the part of the viewfinder to use for measuring brightness and
determining exposure. The following three methods are available. The
factory default setting is L (Multi-segment metering).
1
Turn the metering mode switch.
The set metering method is displayed in
the status screen and viewfinder.
L Multi-segmented Metering
The scene in the viewfinder is metered in
77 different zones. Even in backlit
locations, this mode automatically
determines what level of brightness is in
which portion and automatically adjusts
exposure.
M Center-weighted Metering
Metering is weighted at the center of the
viewfinder. Use this metering when you
want to compensate for the exposure by
experience, instead of leaving it to the
camera. The illustration shows that
sensitivity increases as the pattern height
increases (center). This mode does not
automatically compensate for backlit scenes.
Turn the rear e-dial (S) to adjust the aperture value.
Press the | button to retain the shutter speed at 1/180 second and
automatically adjust the aperture value.
The sensitivity cannot be set to [ISO AUTO] in M mode. If the exposure
mode is changed to M mode when the sensitivity is set to [ISO AUTO], the
sensitivity is also changed to the lowest value set in “Setting the Range of
Automatic Sensitivity Correction” (p.84).
