Configuring an external modem
External modems that are not U.S. Robotics 9.6K modems pre-configured for the Avaya
R300 should be configured on a PC using a modem communication program such as MS
HyperTerm.
1. Connect the maintenance modem to the PC’s serial port.
2. Set the communication program to the following settings:
— 9600bps
— 8 Data Bits
—1 Stop Bit
—No Parity
3. Set the modem DIP switches to the following:
— Switch 1 - DOWN
— Switch 2 - UP
— Switch 3 - DOWN
— Switch 4 - UP
— Switch 5 - UP
— Switch 6 - UP
— Switch 7 - UP
— Switch 8 - DOWN
4. Enter the following commands, pressing
ENTER after each:
—at&f
—at&b1
—at&d
—at&h2
— at&i2
—at&w
5. Disconnect the modem from the PC.
6. Connect the modem to the Avaya R300 and reset the dip switches as described in
Table 9 on page 43.
