Adjusting the Flash Exposure Compensation
Just as with regular exposure compensation (=
78), you can adjust the
flash exposure from –2 to +2 stops, in 1/3-stop increments.
z Raise the flash, press the <r> button and
immediately turn the <
> ring to choose
the compensation level, and then press
the <m> button.
z The correction level you specified is now
displayed.
When there is a risk of overexposure, the camera automatically adjusts the
shutter speed or aperture value during the flash shots to reduce washed-
out highlights and shoot at optimal exposure. However
, you can deactivate
automatic adjustment of the shutter speed and aperture value by accessing
MENU (=
26) and choosing [4] tab > [Flash Control] > [Safety FE] > [Off].
You can also configure the flash exposure compensation by accessing MENU
(=
26) and choosing [4] tab > [Flash Control] > [Flash Exp. Comp].
You can also access the [Built-in Flash Settings] MENU screen as follows
(except when an optional external flash is mounted).
- Press and hold the <r> button for at least one second.
- When the flash is up, press the <r> button and immediately press the
<n> button.
You can also access the [Flash Control] MENU screen (=
26) by pressing
the <r> button and touching [
].

Shooting with the FE Lock
Just as with the AE lock (=
79), you can lock the exposure for the flash
shots.
1 Raise the flash and set it to [h]
(=
96).
2 Lock the flash exposure.
z Aim the camera at the subject to shoot
with the exposure locked. With the
shutter button pressed halfway, press the
<o> button.
z The flash fires, and when
[
] is displayed, the flash output level is
retained.
z To unlock FE, release the shutter button
and press the <o> button again. In this
case, [
] is no longer displayed.
3 Compose the shot and shoot.
z After one shot, FE is unlocked and [ ] is
no longer displayed.
FE Lock cannot be used with Touch Shutter (=
41) or Touch AF
(=
94), because touching the screen will cancel FE Lock.
