Preface Features
Accessible drives/components
A number of mounting locations are available:
An installation slot for a ServerView Local Service Display (standard)
An installation slot for a slimline CD/DVD drive (option)
A 5.25-inch bay for a magnetic tape drive (option)
The accessible drives/components integrated in this locations cannot be
replaced during operation.
Power supply
The server has two hot-plug power supply units that automatically switch to a
mains voltage of 110 V - 240 V. This ensures redundant power supply. If one
power supply unit is defective, the other then guarantees unimpaired operation.
The faulty power supply unit can be replaced during operation (for further details
see section “Replacing the hot-plug power supply unit” on page 82).
Cooling
Each processor has a heat sink. Further cooling for the installed processors is
provided by four hot-plug CPU fans (redundant configuration). Two CPU fans
are mounted in each fan module.
Temperature sensors variably adjust the fans. If a temperature sensor fails or is
removed, the CPU fans affected run at maximum speed so as to provide the
greatest possible protection for the hardware. When the housing is open, all the
CPU fans run at maximum speed.
If a CPU fan fails, unimpaired further operation is ensured. A defective fan
module can be replaced during operation (for further details see “Replacing hot-
plug CPU fans” on page 84).
The main memory is cooled by two fan units. Each fan unit consists of two
separate hot-plug fans. If one fan in a redundant unit fails, the system is able to
continue operating without limitations. If a fan fails, it can be replaced while the
system is running (for further details see section “Replacing hot-plug main
memory fans” on page 86).
