Pressing the record
button will not start
recording.
Check to see whether the proper type of DVD is
loaded.
Set the power switch to “HDD” or “DVD”.
If the externally input image is copy-guarded, it cannot
be recorded. (DZ-HS903A)
If the HDD/DVD is protected, cancel protection.
No recording can be done on a finalized disc.
Check the remaining free space on the HDD/DVD.
If, when using a +RW disc, recorded scenes are very
short or you frequently switch the video quality,
recording may not be possible even when the disc has
remaining space.

Recording starts but
stops immediately.
Is the disc scratched or dirty?
Clean the disc. If there is still no improvement, replace
the disc.

Is some other AV device directly connected to the video/
audio input/output jack of this camcorder?
If the AV device is connected via several other devices,
such as an AV selector, the video signal may not be
transmitted correctly. In such a case, reduce the number
of devices through which the video signal is transmitted,
or connect the AV device directly. (DZ-HS903A)

Are you attempting to record images from a video game
or PC?
From some video games or PCs, images cannot be
recorded on this camcorder. (DZ-HS903A)
No photo can be
recorded
Check to see whether the proper type of card is loaded.
Turn the power switch to “SD”.
If the card is locked, unlock it.
Check the remaining free space on the card.

The LCD screen is
hard to see.
Has the brightness of the LCD screen been adjusted?
Stop recording and adjust the brightness.

The recording
subject darkens.
If there is bright light behind the recording subject (such
as a window, lighting, the sun, etc.), the subject will
become dark. Change the recording direction or use the
Backlight Compensation feature.

Brightness changes
during recording.
If background brightness changes, the brightness of the
subject also changes because of the camcorder’s auto
exposure feature. Record the subject avoiding sudden
changes in background brightness.
The edge of a bright
object or a border
line of a dark object
is colored.
This is not a malfunction. Avoid extreme difference in
brightness by, for example, changing recording direction.
